Diplo, you crack me up.
Mistress E, you owe nobody any explanation. My God, if everyone here was strictly the sum of his or her organic substance, we'd be a sorry lot.
I am firmly in the "nurture" group in the age-old argument between nature and nurture when it comes to women and their ability to excel at sports and games--and same for men. I was encouraged to enjoy table top gaming as a child, and long into my very socially busy adolescence, I continued to game every other Saturday night. My boyfriends knew and accepted this (some with better grace than others, and correlative data indicates longevity of said boyfriend was directly related to grace displayed. ).
I've been in guilds where women were rare (I call myself the token chick of the Bunniez ) and yet, in the 80-person guild I co-led in WoW, a good ten-fifteen percent of us were female... on a highly competitive PvP server, and in a highly PvP-oriented guild. We had women on each of our special teams and they absolutely wrecked shop (still do). Most of them are college students with busy social lives, but they loooove gaming (and beating up boys).
In SWG as a guildleader on a PvP server leading a PvP guild, several of my peers were also women who successfully led or co-led PvP guilds. In server wars, our guilds were some of the fiercest. These women were a variety of ages and professions but they all had social lives outside of gaming, and behaved as if they were very much at ease in their personal environments as well as in their gaming ones.
I don't think that being an active gamer has anything more to do with social aptitude than it does a predetermined predilection toward gaming.

There are closed minded people out there, and if the scientists don't agree with it, it's not true. Do people still think they landed on the Moon because it says they did? Gaming girl here.
As a kid, my little sister would kick my butt on Nintendo games.
My boyfriend bought me Diablo to play on my hand-me-down weak computer. That was ok. Then he got me involved in CoH. I am fully involved there. And now we share a GW account. There is no going back. Muahahahahaaa.
PS: I almost always play female chars.

I think the weight of your point and the momentum of the attack will not be enough to pierce the person's skull and enter the brain pan.

Heh. Not to mention that female chars are easier on the eyes. And if I do play a male char... I have to remember not to respond to funny remarks with a giggle.

I'm 50 years old. 50 is the New 40. I do not look at myself as a Hardcore Gamer. I have played allot of computer games over the last 25 years. Now a days I simply do not have the time. You don't stay married for over 22 years by ignoring your spouse. She has things I want and need from time to time.
EDIT: Now that all know my age does that mean I will be shuned from the forum?

More women for me
Oh yeah on another forum the guys spazzed out when they were told 40% and up of the current gaming population was female. They're like, "omg like for tetris? WTFBBQ"
I think if all the guy gamers had a girlfriend, life partner, whatever, then there be less harassment, stress, discrimination, etc. towards the female gamers.

I might note that the female characters in Guild Wars resemble something akin to sexed up barbie dolls. Funny how even some of the armor has cleavage showing just for women (contradictory to the point of armor). Though, this is usually the case for most games.
An interesting question to ponder is whether or not this actually does anything to deter women from playing games.
I would be quick to say yes, but then I looked at some magazine targeted to women...

As a guy who likes playing dress up on his female characters :P I'm interested in whether any girls can come up with suggestions on how to address these "sexism" or "body image" sort of things, without actually taking my candy away Obviously making male characters ultra-perfect and giving them skimpy armour isn't the solution, because we already have that (warriors in gladiators?) And although a male elem wears non-skimpy clothes, they're pretty tight-fitting tho. But girls can still complain. (or maybe they dont? I dunno)
Hmmm.. t seems to be under-implemented in most of the recent MMORPGs I've played (apparently Star Wars:Galaxies is quite good for this) but I'd really like more choices in clothing and appearance that are independent of gameplay statistics. Or they can just throw in a maid uniform for elems and I'll shut up :P

I'm a guy, but don't like the way the female characters are dressed at all. I'm not interested in barely clothed characters.
I mean come on if we were in a real fight how many ould survive based on the way their armor looks. I mean female warriors and Ele wouldn't last at all.

Uh, no. I personally don't care how old anyone is. ANd I have a feeling many others do not either.

You're much more likely to be shunned if you said (or demonstrated) that you're 13 years old, rather than 50

So think of a way that can address your dislike, without taking away my candy :P I guess I shouldn't have implied that only women might have a problem with the clothing in this game. (But you didn't mention Warrior's Gladiator set for men. Or the various "Tattoo" armours - they dont do much either in a real fight
On the topic of realism, I wish Meteor would affect enemies more like in real life - a giant rock from space smashing them into pink goo. Not knocking them over comically :P (j/k)

Which is the reason you take much more damage if you wore Ascetic's chest design instead of Censor's Raiment.

So this fire starts in the kitchen and he's panicking and screaming and waving his arms, funny stuff. Well, the other Sim was helping put the fire out, when his car pool arrived and honked the horn... so he stops helping with the fire and runs out to his car pool. The first Sim died in the fire and the house burned down.
I had no idea it could be so entertaining.

Hahahahahaha! That's classic. Sounds like their relationship was on the rocks already, if he'd run out and leave his loved one to die in a horrible fire. Oh, well... now he gets to play the grieving widower. I'm telling you, it's all in how you play it.

There's one thing that bugs me about a certain few female gamers I know, particularly on here (and just a reminder that I'm a female too) is that when guys compliment their characters for being hot they think they actually mean them. They seriously take it as a compliment to them and get so damn big headed about it.
One went so far as to shout in all caps that she was right about an arguement we were having because people thought her character was better...and that was one guy...who couldn't even type "good-looking" properly.
So much as I hate the rubbish about guys hitting on girls in games, some of the girls just make the whole situation worse for us all.

If we wanted realism we wouldn't play games now would we? I love most of the outfits, and will probably end up making a couple for cosplay purposes. Besides, there's the same amount of barely clothed male characters in the game as females.

I love the outfits in GW as well (longtime female gamer here, btw). Oddly, in other games similar outfits make me roll my eyes and mutter about putting obvious drool material in for the guys. I'm not sure what it is about GW outfits that are ok. Maybe it's that the characters look sexy but also kick-ass at the same time. For some reason, for example, skimpy outfits in WoW left me totally cold. Something about the combination of costume and character design left the characters looking more decorative than dangerous. I have a feeling that this varies dramatically from gamer to gamer, but I have no problem with a sexy costume in theory--if I'm willing to imagine a world where spells actually work, I'm willing to assume that chainmail bikinis somehow have protective spells in them. It all depends on whether the character design can pull off the look and make it seem like a real character in sexy clothes, not a blank plastic doll in lingerie.
